Fiesta Mk 8 st 3 tyres

Featured Replies

Has anyone have any good recommendations of tyres after Michelin pilot sport 4s as these only lasted 11000 miles and are quite pricey  would love to hear cheers

Yes was done when the new one was fitted slight adjustment done

Most people still seem to recommend the Michelin. The PS 4 has been replaced by the PS 5 which is claimed to give better mileage with no loss of grip.

Not been overdoing the launch control, have you?😀

Thanks for the info was only the 1 tyre was in this condition the drivers side had a depth of 5mm I’m thinking was there a swap of wheel somewhere before we had bought it 👍🏻

As Roger says the PS4 is still recommended - I note it still did well in recent tyre test in Evo, for instance.

There's also the question of what's a available in the ST's size. For example Continental's SportContact7 is highly rated but I don't know if it (or indeed Michelin PS 5) is available in the size you need.

Thanks for your info yeah when you think about it Michelin ps4 are probably  the best and recommended for this performance car cheers

Yes, there doesn't seem to be a huge choice in the right size/rating, and they're often out of stock. I've seen a few mentions of the Contis on other forums but no useful info on mileage. I've had them in the past on VW group cars and found them ok.

Tyre mileage, like mpg, is always one of those "how long is a piece of string?" questions. More so with something like the ST, as driving styles vary so much. I've seen an amazing number of people trying desperately to find out if a prospective purchase has the Performance Pack (and thus launch control) hence my tongue in cheek comment earlier!😀

I know people on other forums have gone for PS5s but they were on 17" rims, last time I looked the smallest PS5 for an 18" rim was 215.

Some have gone for 215/40x18 and even 225/40x18, partly because of availability issues, partly in an attempt to soften the ride a little, partly in the hope of reducing rim damage, but then you get into issues of a non-OEM fitment.

Cheers Eric yes I agree the more rubber on the road the safer the drive hence the price being more expensive thanks for your knowledgeable comments I could safely say I’m pretty convinced now 🤓

NB I'm not necessarily recommending wider than standard tyres (215 or 225), just mentioning that some people have gone down that route. Obviously the decision to fit a non-original size rests with the owner, but another reason mentioned for doing so is that the wider tyres are actually cheaper than the 205s in most cases.

Don't know if you lurk on other forums yourself but see this thread with more detail on the subject:
