Parts availability for a 1997 Fiesta

Featured Replies

As the post says, are parts relatively easy to come by?

Thinking of buying one for one of my sons to learn to drive in. It's going for a song and he's a trainee mechanic.

depends on what parts. Bodywork parts are not easy to come by.

was thinking more of the engine, running gear and mechanical parts really.

Quite a few posts about body corrosion, especially the rear springs/shockers where they mount to the bodywork. It's not an easy replaceable part, it has to be specially fabricated.

Not really.  Even decent Mk6 parts are starting to get thin on the ground now.  I wouldn't go any earlier than those if you want cheap & easy parts.

For a company the size of Ford, that's disappointing to hear.  I always understood parts availability was one of Ford's strengths even for older models.  I've never tested this out though.  Probably no different to any other large manufacturer then.

10 years past end of manufacture is the regulation for parts stocks

Cheers guys.. I went ahead and bought it anyway. Was going for next to nothing so I figured why not.

That's very true but with the millions of older Fords still around I'm surprised to hear that that even Fiesta Mk6 parts are thin on the ground.  There are loads of them around here.

Once a car becomes a 'classic' though (I've owned several), parts get to be manufactured by independent companies.  That's many years away for the Mk6!

Try telling that to a Mk3 Mondeo estate owner who needs a rear crossmember for it.

What people don't seem to understand is that manufacturers don't want us driving round in old cars, they want us to buy new cars!

Not even just the car makers, take the mk3 Mondeo (2000-2007), Euro Car Parts no longer list spares for the model. Be interested if the OP puts the reg into ECP and see what parts they have available for it if any.

Yup.. They have some, but not all.

Googling specifically what you need does bring up results though.

Anyway. Let's see what happens with it.

As a matter of interest,  I wonder what is the oldest Fiesta on this (and other models).

The oldest Ford I had was a 1956 Popular (98e ?), taller than it was wide!  Also had two Sierras.
