My boot has stopped latching/engaging

Featured Replies

I've a 2010 Fiesta 1.6 TDCI.

Some weeks ago the boot latch/lock started to come open when driving. I fitted a new latch/lock and all was well. Today for no apparent reason the boot will not lock shut - the latch mechanism doesn't seem to engage.

I've removed the two boot rubber "stoppers" thinking that these might somehow be preventing the boot closing properly. However, the latch will still not engage. I've checked the 'locking ring' on the boot scuttle and this is tight and hasn't apparently moved.

I have no idea what's caused this - can someone please advise me what to do next.

Thank you

The latch may have locked while the boot was open.  Try pushing it with something of similar size to the striker (screwdriver shaft for example).

Thanks TomsFocus - a bit of an update working the latch mechanism with a screwdriver shows it doesn't 'lock' itself.

So, I put down the rear seats, got inside with a torch and got the boss to close the boot. The latch mechanism is 'hooking' the ring right enough but not locking itself and thus not locking the boot. (excuse my terminology)

So I assume I need to buy (yet) another bootlock !  URRRRGH!

If it was a brand new lock, they generally come with warranty.  Worth double checking that as you may be able to get a free replacement from the same seller.
