Trouble Starting Engine Occassionally

Featured Replies

My 2009 Fiesta Zetec starts first time every morning (🤞) but recently (I've only had car for 3mths) it's started playing up a bit.. when I'm using it constantly during the day, most of the time it won't start straight away. The computer things come on but the engine won't turn. As I turn ignition off, it sound like its just about to start. Have to try it about 3 times then it starts. Going in for a full service in 2 weeks.. Any idea what the starting issue could be so I could mention it to garage when it goes in? Worried what its going to be like over the Winter.. Thanks in advance....

It could be a faulty ignition switch, not always making contact in the start position. Just tell the garage when it goes in for them to diagnose it.

Could this be an expensive fix, if it's that?

Thanks.

First thing I would do is get the battery checked.  A reputable place like Halfords won't sell you a battery unless it's needed and it's quite cheap or even free.

Also could be the battery connections.  Try starting with the headlamps on, if they stay out after trying, it's probably the connections.
