2012 Fiesta 1.25, liquid splurting out hole on top of engine

Featured Replies

Hi,

I noticed a liquid splurting out a hole at on the top of my engine, in between the very right spark plug area and the coil pack. It was steaming & hot so possibly coolant. My coolant had been overfilled (since I got the car, 2 years ago, came like that from the dealer so thought nothing of it).

Wondering if this could be some normal relief valve, but I can’t find anything about it online, or where to find diagrams.

Well that was an anti-climax.

It's not a normal pressure relief valve.  Usually caused by a blown core plug on the cylinder head.  However that looks like clear water rather than coolant?  In which case it could be screenwash or even leftover from an engine bay clean if that's been done recently.

As Tom has suggested, but I would just add that on earlier Fiesta's it was a common problem for rain water to enter the engine where the screenwash nozzles were not sealed to the bonnet. The water managed to get into the sparkplug wells.
Later models should have a rubber seal, but possibly that has failed. Fix was to seal the nozzle to the bonnet with silicone rubber.

Was a bit more active & smokey when revved up. Looked clear but couldn’t say for sure with the small amount, was leaning coolant only due it stopping after draining the excess away. No engine bay cleaning either
