Coolant Leak - 2007 Focus 1.6 zetec

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I'm not car-savvy and my usual mechanic is unavailable at the moment, so I thought I'd try here just for some advice and possible causes.

My 2007 has a coolant leak, sudden high temperature yesterday which was no coolant in the tank, so I filled it up to max, I can't see any obvious signs of leakage from the top view, I had the water pump and thermostat changed in July but only yesterday I felt like something was wrong with the car, which made me check.

And this was this morning, my drive is on a small slant, there is a "wet patch" directly on the driveway underneath where the tank is, drivers side. Any advice is gratefully appreciated. Thanks

I can't see any immediate faults from those pictures.

It is possible for the tanks to crack underneath, so that may be what's happened here.  Just needs a new tank fitting if so.

I think the 'grime' in the first picture is unrelated.  That front radiator is for the AC, not the coolant.  The one behind it looks clean from the small part we can see.  I suspect that is either an AC leak, or possibly PAS fluid if those pipes are for a PAS fluid cooler.

The tyre may also be getting low on the inside edge, although it's difficult to tell from the picture.

Thank you, would you advise I use some Holts Radweld, incase? and i'll look into getting a new tank fitted asap.

I did have an AC leak (one of the pipes were broken) so I had to have it replaced July/August.

No.  That stuff blocks up all the waterways and causes more problems long term.

update: it was the thermostat housing. Been replaced and works fine again.

thermostat changed

You said it was changed.

What happened? Failed new one? Mechanic didn't fit it right?
