Noisy gearbox on my '69' plate Fiesta

Featured Replies

Just had an MOT and service and been told i need to have work on my gearbox. A gearbox expert garage (not Ford - too expensive) said Ford used cheap bearings from China.  I have 33,000 miles on the clock! I have been told he has seen cars with less miles have the same problem! Getting the gearbox out, changing the bearings, hoping I haven't damaged the gearbox, probably new clutch - might be up to £2000. Its my 6th Fiesta in over 35 years. So disappointed! Anyone else had this problem?

So Ford is too expensive but a garage saying you need £2000 of work after you take it for a service isn’t? Do you trust this “expert” garage? Have you noticed any problems or is it just them saying there is an issue?

I concur. If there is a definitive fault that effects the driveablilty of your car, at that price I'd be getting a few quotes to sort it...
