Clutch replacement including dual mass or not?

Featured Replies

I have a MK3 1.6 tdci focus. 145,000 miles.

I have noticed the clutch pedal occasionally only half returning when pulling off motorways. Other wise the clutch and transmission give no vibration or gear change issues.

My local garage has diagnosed the issue as a weeping slave cylinder and suggest the clutch is worn.

As I have no vibration and acceleration is smooth, would I regret not changing the dual mass and just replace the clutch kit with slave cylinder?

yes

when it does fail 5 mins later, the labour charge to swap will be the same as that for fitting a clutch - ford dual mass flywheels have a penchant for self-destruction - I guess you apply the power and change gear gently

The 1.6 TDCI DMF is an unusual design.  It uses grease rather than springs, and generally they are more robust.  However, with 145,000 miles, I'd say it would be worth replacing in this case.
