Mk2 Focus Gravelly/Bumpy Steering

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've got a MK2 Focus titanium 1.6 petrol. In recent time I've had really weird steering, Every tiny or large bump in the road shakes the steering wheel and rough roads seem to resonate through the steering wheel.

I have had a 4 wheel alignment done recently, sailed through the MOT and replaced the old titanium wheels with 5 spoke zetec ones (due to the old wheels being ruined and buckled all around)

This isn't a balancing issue as on a smooth patch of road even at 70MPH the vibration disappears.

I'm not really sure what this could be, I've had some people say that the wider offset of the zetec wheels will cause more feedback through the wheel, which I can understand but it's incredibly uncomfortable in it's current state and doubt its normal.

There is no play in any of the joints, inner tie rods and track rod ends are all ok, and the car drives dead straight and doesn't pull in any direction. Shock absorbers aren't leaking and were changed a few years ago (before my ownership) and springs are in good nick.

I will say that it was a slight issue before I changed the wheels, but now it is even more noticeable.

Also to mention that I have a set of 4 goodyears that have been changed in the last 6 months so it isn't a tyre issue.

Hopefully someone else would have experienced this and can point me in the right direction!
