Headlight fault, only one light moves up and down

Featured Replies

Hiya guys.

I have recently purchased a 2013 ford fiesta, and the headlights are a mile out of sync, when i use the height adjustment inside the car, it only moves the drivers side light up and down, the passenger one does not move at all, and its beam is very low, can you adjust them manually?

There is manual adjustment, but only a small amount.

It sounds like the headlight leveling motor is broken.

Hiya, thanks for the reply.

yeah i have just been reading about the motor, is it an easy swap around for a novice?

The motor is part of the headlight assembly. You just replace the entire headlight.

Have a look on eBay for used headlights, make sure that you get exactly the same part number, although the last letter of the part can be equal or higher than yours. For example if your part ends 'DB' then you could use 'DC' or 'DD' or 'DE' etc. but don't use 'DA'

To confirm a faulty headlight, take the known working one, your drivers one, and swap it temporarily to the passenger side, and operate the adjustment switch. If the 'working' headlight continues to function correctly, you can rule out a wiring issue and be pretty confident the existing passenger headlight is faulty as @unofix has suggested.

UPDATE...

Thanks for the information guys, i have just had a look at the faulty headlight, when you turn the up and down adjustment button, the motors do work on both lights, and the faulty one actually moves in and out with the motor, but it still doesn't make the light go up and down...

Am i right in thinking that it is just a headlight replacement as @unofix recommends?

That sounds like part of the movement system inside of the headlight has broken. Yes you will need to replace the headlight as a complete unit.
