Looking to buy a Transit - Need advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice on buying a 2020 (70) Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue 105ps. I’m getting it from a large dealer, and it’s got 69k miles on the clock. The van itself is in excellent condition – the bodywork is really tidy, the interior is spotless, and even the back isn’t bad. It seems like it’s been looked after, but there’s one issue I’m a bit concerned about: the service history.

It only has two service stamps – one from its PDI and another recent one at 68k by the dealer I’m buying from (AC). The guy I’m dealing with suggested it was likely an ex-hire van, and the hire company may have serviced it themselves but didn’t stamp the book, or it could’ve been serviced at an independent garage that didn’t record it. Worst-case scenario, it may not have been serviced regularly.

The condition seems promising, but the lack of full service history worries me a bit. Has anyone got experience with these engines or advice on how much of a risk I’d be taking here? Any insight on what to look out for in case it was neglected would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ford has revised the recommended replacement interval for the wet belt timing belt in some of its diesel vans, including the Transit, Transit Custom, Van, and Tourneo:
  • New interval: The new recommended interval is six years or 100,000 miles.
  • Previous interval: The previous recommended interval was 10 years or 150,000 miles.
  • Affected vehicles: This change applies to vehicles with a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine from 2016 onwards.

You are going to need the wet timing belts and oil pump changed BEFORE it is 6 years old. Estimated cost at a Ford garage is £1500 to £1800

Would the dealer be willing to change the timing belt oil pump belt and remove the sump to clean the oil pickup at there expense?
