Mysterious P0202 Error on my Ford Galaxy 2012, 140hp Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you can help me with a problem I'm having with my Ford Galaxy. A while ago, the engine suddenly started running rough. The error code P0202 (Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 2) was displayed.

The car is currently at the Ford dealership.  Here's what they've checked/done so far:

Swapped injectors: Fault remains on the 2nd cylinder
Compression test on the 2nd cylinder: okay
Checked the wiring from the 2nd injector to the ECU: okay
Ford has now contacted a company that specializes in repairing ECUs. However, they said that the P0202 error in conjunction with a faulty ECU is rather rare.

In order to check the ECU, the company needs the following components in addition to the ECU itself:

ABS control unit
Engine control unit
programmed key
RFA module (keyless entry control unit)
ELV (steering column lock module)
Interior central electronics
Has anyone else had similar experiences with the P0202 error, especially in connection with a possible ECU defect?

I'm grateful for any advice!

Cheers,

PS: I'm from Germany, so please excuse any mistakes in my English.

If the injector wiring loom is a separate part on these, I'd try swapping that with another first.  It used to be quite common to get faulty injector wiring for just one injector although we don't see it often nowadays.

Thanks for the reply!

I've since spoken to a guy who works at a company that repairs ECUs. He said that with my type of ECU, it's actually not possible for the car to only show one injector as faulty, it should always be two, because of how the ECU is built. He also said that Ford apparently has problems with the wiring in the engine compartment on this model series, but not specifically with the injectors.

He also told me which 8 pins on the ECU are responsible for the injectors so I can check them with a multimeter. He said it could be that the pins on the ECU are bent or even broken.

Now I'm wondering if Ford actually checked the cable properly ?.

I have had the same error on my  2009 galaxy for 8 years.  Two separate garages have told me not to worry about it as it is probably linked to a sensor and will take ages to diagnose.  On the other hand I have not had issues with the engine.  I recently saw the attached interesting article.  Not sure this really helps but..
