How many miles is too many?

Featured Replies

I have been looking at transit customs and tourneo customs specifically automatics and have seen one that is within budget, really nice and fairly local but has 148k miles on.

Service history appears to be good but am I buying a van that already has had the best out of it already?

I have been looking at these and transporters, for similar money I can get an older (2008-2012) transporter TD5 with anywhere between 60-90k miles on but then you have other things to contend with such as rust, perished seals, degraded suspension, DPF issues with short trips, turbo wear etc.

I suppose the question is, how many miles have you guys gotten out of your vans?

Well in theory since the timing belt has been done it should be good for the next 10 years or 100,000 miles which ever occurs first.

At the end of the day it's a Transit van, things will wear out like the clutch and suspension but on the whole I'd say it's probably only two thirds of the way through it's life.

Don't forget the 2.0 EcoBlue wetbelt recommendation has been reduced considerably on Transits.  They're suggesting every 60k miles now.

I'd also be concerned about the automatic gearbox at higher mileage.  Does anyone know which autobox they put in these?
