Using old Triple Dash radio CD6006 on my dad´s garage

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First of all thanks for reading.

I've installed a 7" Android Radio on my dad's 2003 Ford Fusion 1.4 Tdci.

He now wants to connect the triple dash CD6006 radio on his garage.

Like this one but the CD6006 version.

This is the connector on the car. Please ignore the highlighted numbers (they were used to connect the android unit)

I´ve byed a socket from aliexpress that fit´s on the radio.

We connect the yellow (constant 12v) and the red wires (Ignition ACC) to the + of an 12v adapter and the - to the ground. The radio turns on.

After that it asks for the code. We put it, it's accepted and moves to displaying the car license plate number and then turns off.

I´m not familiar with this radio/car. It has some sort of wire to connect so the radio "knows" it is on the right car?

On the ford radio connector I see a wire to vehicle speed (14) and start (15). Should i connect any of these?

Is there anyone who can help?

Thanks in advance

I hope someone can, that's an interesting wee project. Worthy of a feature on James May Dull Men show!

I've recorded a video. I put the correct code. It seams to be accepted but the radio reboots and ask for code again.

Can anyone help?

I have watched the video and you are doing it entirely correctly, using the '5' button as the enter key. The only conclusion I can reach is sadly the radio is simply faulty...

Thanks for your comment. I dont know why it is faulty. It was installed and working on the car 😞

Lets ser if anyone else had any clue.

Thanks again

The display 23-13-UX

The 13 is telling you that the wrong code has been entered too many times (10 or more). The radio is now locked out and even entering the correct code will not unlock it.

When this was a current model, the dealer could reset the radio, but as far as I know support for this radio was ended more than 10 years ago.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment.

Sorry but that's not right. That is the license plate of the car and I'm 100% sure that the code is right and no wrong one has been inserted.

The radio never shows any message for wrong code or lock.

thank you

Ah that's unlucky "13"

It so happens that the code 13 is also the number used to show that the radio is locked due to the wrong code being entered too many times. On those units they never displayed a 'locked' message, just a code.

Is it possible that you could reinstall the radio in the original car to see if it still works ?

Are you running the radio from a power supply rather than a battery ? If so can the power supply provide up to 10 Amps ? I was just wondering if after entering the code the power supply was going in to current limit as the radio turns fully on.

hehehe.

Ok. I didn´t know that this model doens´t display the locked message.

It´s a mess have to connect it again on the car but yes I can try it. I think that´s my next step. I suspect that it needs some wire from the original loom.

I´m running it with a power supply that gives 2.4Amps. I will look for one with better amps.

We run it directly to the car´s battery and it does the same.

Thank you for giving me one more point of view 😄

I think you will find that the power supply is the problem.

That unit runs at around 4 to 5 Amps when in normal use. On power up it can peak for a few moments at over 8 Amps.

Use an old 12V car battery if you have one, just so you can test it.

Ok. Good information.

I Will looks for a battery then.

Thanks

  • 1 month later...

Hello, I've also found a 6006 RDS E-ON Radio that I plan to install to replace the 4500 unit. Initially, I thought that no modifications to the wiring harness would be required. Do I need a special cable for this?

Best of luck with your project. I hope I don’t run into that same 'unlucky 13' when I try to install the radio. Currently, the car has more pressing issues, so I can't test it yet.
