Ok Rufus should be able to fix it:

Set Boot Selection to "Non Bootable" and you shouldn't need to change anything else.

It will then complete wipe and reformat it.

    Couldn't get it to install, then read the notes. For Windows 8 and above, I have windows 7 LOL I do appreciate your help on this anyway, so many thanks for sticking with me...

    Old version should still work on Win 7:

    sorry been a busy morning, right click the drive and set up as a simple volume, just select next to use all and assign drive number automatically. HTH

    Success!!! Discovered v3.22 after Mr Google told me it was the last version to use windows 7. Now all done, took 5 seconds LOL Thank you so so much for providing this solution. I now at least have a working 8Gb thumbdrive again...
