Fuel Range after Fuel Filter Change

Featured Replies

Hi all. I changed my fuel filter today on my 2014 transit custom. Triple checked everything after, no leaks etc. Turned the ignition on for 30 seconds for 3 times to get the pump primed. Just driven a 5 mile journey, and lost 16 miles of range according to the computer. Is this normal? I checked again for leaks once I got home and again all looks fine

Yes.

It is only a calculated guess, not an actual fact. The range can increase just as easy as it can decrease.

As Unofix says, these range calculations (in any vehicle) are a "best estimate". I usually find my range is up and down depending on use, driving conditions, weather etc. It's dropped like a stone doing short runs during the recent cold snap.

It seems odd, though, that you've never seem this behaviour before  - have you not had the van long, or just not paid much attention to the display? You might just be focussing on it as you've recently changed something.

If you're confident there are no leaks, just keep an eye on it as you drive in different conditions and over greater distances.

Presumably you lost some diesel during the filter change?  I wouldn't expect the immediate run after that to be accurate.
