2016 ford transit “elec system over voltage stop safely

Featured Replies

I’m new on here can anyone help me out I have a 2016 transit and is showing elec system over voltage stop safely and putting the battery light on. Also it doesn’t go into limp mode or anything but when I brake the lights on my radio and around the heater switches go off.

Have you used a multimeter to measure the battery voltage when the engine is running?

It sounds like you have a voltage regulator fault in the alternator.

I’ve never checked anything as don’t have a clue but I will try what you have suggested

Yes it’s reading 12.7v

This is going to take a very long time to fix with a month between questions and answers 🤣

If 12.7V is with the engine running then it's wrong. At the very least I'd expect 13.95V

I unplugged the batteries and they were 12.7v when they weren’t connected to anything

That reading was when I disconnected them sorry

Ive replaced the rear lights batteries showing 12.6/7 un started 14.1v when idling still showing the elec system over voltage when applying the brake pedal. Disconnected the rear lights pressed the brake pedal and doesn’t show the elec system message also it only comes on when I turn on my main lights. Any suggestions tia

The Body Control Module (BCM) is faulty.

Is there an easy fix or what do you suggest to put it right

I would suggest the best course of action for yourself would be to find a good auto-electrician who knows how to use FORScan and get them to check firstly for Ford specific DTC's especially communication errors on the canbus systems.

If the BCM is faulty then it will need to be replaced with one of the same part number and then have your vehicles software, "AsBuilt" files loaded to it.

Since the last post I’ve renewed the lights replaced the alternator and now the truck won’t start (starter clicking)

Looking forward to next months update 👍

It’s looking like I would have claimed the money off my insurance and will advise people not to buy ford

Sounds like the battery is flat.  Try a jump start if possible.

This could be the reason for your problems 🤔
