Start stop function not working and power button not working

Featured Replies

Quick question guys quick question I have this 2014 Ford fiesta zetec s start+stop and the power button on the left side of the dash  when pressing it it doesn’t do anything no ignition or start. Another problem I’m experiencing is the start stop button on the centre console always stay with the amber light on which means the function is off  when pressing it won’t turn off for the function to work it only says with the amber light indicating that it’s off.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I’m confused, the car won’t start. Why are you worrying about stop start? You can’t diagnose any other issue until you get it running.

Are you sure it's not a flat battery?

Have you tried jump starting it off another car?

The car starts and drives normally with the key but the “keyless start” and eco start stop don’t work

If it’s got a key to start then it doesn’t have keyless start.

Ah, right. You confused things by saying the car would not start, in your first post. When you start a post you always need to give full details of the vehicle and engine, and exactly what is wrong, so you get the best advice.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect these are symptoms of a failing battery on the car. Stop start requires many things to be spot on before it will work, and a failing battery is a common cause of problems, even if the car still starts normally.

Do you have a multi-meter so that you can measure battery voltage, with engine off, and again with engine ticking over and at a steady 1,500 rpm?

I'm going to take a WILD guess here.

The OP has a car with a regular "Key" ignition. When they put the key in the ignition the car can be started as normal 👍

I suspect that the OP thinks that their car has Keyless start (which it doesn't) and is trying to start (and stop) the engine by pressing the Start/Stop inhibit switch. Which of course won't work since that's not what it's therefore.

OR

Some previous owner fitted the ignition Power button and never actually converted the car from a Key ignition to a Keyless system.

Yeah, I'm confused too

Could be. I found this old thread where someone had fitted a button on a "keyed" car. In this case it only worked in conjunction with the key!

What's the point of that?

Hi, thanks for the feed back.

I do have a multimeter indeed I will try to look at the voltage with the ignition off and on and see. But if I drive the car for two hours let’s say wouldn’t the battery be “charged” and tell the start stop function to work or the power button on the left hand near the cluster to function?

The 2014 Fiesta Zetec S didn't come with keyless start as standard, it was only available as part of an options pack.

The button in the photo is the real thing but it's position looks wrong.

Hard to tell the position from that image - here's a real one:

Possible that the car has been damaged and repaired, the dash might have been replaced with one from a keyless start car, so the button is there but it's not connected.

Any outstanding faults/incompatible modules/asbuilt could trigger the stop/start to disable itself.

Or a previous owner has disabled it.

I know I have it on the other side I took this picture of Google for reference of what the button looks like. Mine it’s one the left side. (This picture must be a left hand drive car)

Will have a look under the dash and see if anything is connected. But how can I check if it’s disabled? I have a FORScan tool but I don’t know we’re to go

Yes like that

Agreed.  Almost certainly had a front end impact and blown the passenger airbag, requiring a used dash to be fitted.  Used dash came from a higher spec car.  Button not connected to anything.

did run an obd  on the car and the only faults that came up were those two. Do you think one of them could be the corporate for the eco start stop no to function?

If the battery is dying, then it might not be holding enough charge to operate the stop/start.

Have you checked the battery voltage as I suggested yet, and what were the results?
