Courier, What To Ask

Featured Replies

Looking for new vehicle as my 2005 Focus is beginning to edge towards end of life! 😀

Saw this Courier van for sale for what I think is a decent price. Two problems, 1, it's in Shetland so not easy for me to just nip up and inspect it.

2, I've not bought a car from a private buyer for over 10 years, I'm not totally sure what I should look for in a 2nd hand vehicle.

Seller has asked what I need to know, so what do I need to know? 😀

Screenshots and pic for info. Looks ok price to me for ages and condition.

First question with a 1.0 EcoBoost is whether the wetbelts have been changed.

And if they haven't? Walk away?

To kinda answer my own question, after Googling the price of changing them I think I know your answer 😄

Out of interest, did you find anyone doing them in Orkney?

There are some independents doing them around here for £1000 or so now, but I don't know whether there'll be enough demand up there.

Don't necessarily have to walk away, no harm in asking if they'd be willing to negotiate a better price.  But I would definitely recommend getting a quote for the belt change in your area before committing to that.

We have a Ford dealer here so I would imagine that they should be able to change it 🤔 not sure if the cost obviously though.

Minimum cost at a Ford dealer is £1800 and so far the highest reported cost has been £2600

Totally shocked emoji ...... 😲      (sorry the best I could find)

Looking for the totally shocked emoji!

I'll get my son, who used to work at the local Ford garage, to see if he could get an estimate for the job just for curiosity sake.
