2008 Smax 2,0 TDCI upgrade cruise control+ int. mirrror

Featured Replies

Hello,

my car dont have a cruise control and I would like to add one. Is that possible and what do I need?

Second question: my car also dont have an electrically dimmable interior mirror. I have a spare one from an Ford Focus Cmax. Anyone already tried to add?

Solved by TomsFocus

If you want to add cruise control it may just be as simple as swapping the steering wheel for one with cruise switches and then enabling cruise in the modules using Forscan.  Not all trim levels have wiring pre-fitted though, and some may not have a suitable GEM either.

Regarding the mirror, they work very simply, just need a live, earth and ideally a reverse input to clear it when reversing.  You may find some or all of the wiring is already in the roof for this, again depending on trim level.

The live wiring from interior light shut off about 30 min after leaving vehicle. I think I´ll take 2 necessary wires from that light.

For cruise control in Germany its pretty expensive to get steering wheel in good condition with all CC buttons, also I read in this forum that I will need those 2 switches on brake and clutch pedal for the CC.

Only CC button I can´t get elsewhere maybe?

I've added cruise control to several Fords, as well as a few VW & Audi.  All of them had the correct pedal switches fitted already so it's worth checking whether yours does or not.

The buttons are available on their own, but they are very expensive and you'd have to find wiring for them as well.

Sometimes breakers yards sell them as a pair with wiring like this.  I don't know if these ones are exactly right for your car though.

Thank you TomsFocus. So First I will Check for the wiring / Switch in both Pedals. I only need forscan on windows to enable CC? We also have a 2004 Cmax 2.0 TDCI and I Had to enable CC via Elmconfig.

And I have another Problem. It seem that the Brake Assistent? loose a little Vacuum, I can hear it near Brake Pedal, a sissling noise. Does Somebody knows how to repair it or should I replace that whole Brake Assistent/ Power Brake? (sorry I dont know the english Word)

I used to use ELMConfig myself but have read that Forscan covers this on most cars now.  I haven't got any direct experience with the S-Max.

Regarding the brake assistant, it's generally called a vacuum servo or a brake booster in English.  They can't generally be repaired, so you'd need to replace it.  They very rarely break on modern cars.

Good morning TomsFocus, thanks a lot for your input. I was ill the last 2 weeks, sorry for the late answer. Yesterday I bought an old steering wheel with CC buttons for about 55€. Happy I found it for low that good price even the steering wheel is in a bad condition. Its not a problem for me because I already bought a leather wheel sheeting? on Aliexpress. Now I have to wait for it to receive. I will reply here as soon as I receive it and put it on.

The brake booster is definetly making vacuum noise.. Its still breaking good but I have to repair this. I will try to repair it in about 2 month when it gets warmer. I bought on Amazon this in the link https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07CQWL1QP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title and give it a go. If it works good I will take pictures an post the repair procedure. If not I have to buy a new brake booster to replace the old one. In case, do you have an "How to" for replacing the brake booster?

Stay healthy and kind regards from Germany

Hello, steering wheel with CC buttons are mounted. I tried with forscan and extended license to programme the CC but it says that something is missing.

- Confiuration and programming

- IPC Central configuration (back up)

"Loading SBL to secondary module. Error open data: 6M2T-14C025-AB.VBF. Please copy calibration file to" etc.

What does this mean? I tried via forscan to download the file but it wont work...

Well I guess I have the wrong CC buttons.. I recognized that my old airbag arent the same as I installed the new steering wheel with the cc buttons. Optically they are the same but different mounting. I have a 2008 Smax and I guess the steering wheel is from a 2010 Smax (Smax MK2? with the facelift). I also put the new cover on it   😞 and also read the codes with my android phone and forscan. I have a DTC B10C without indicator light on. At night the light of all buttons of CC are on but no function.

Are you trying to use the phone version of Forscan to enable cruise?  I've read on here that the phone version can't be used for programming, only fault reading and live data.

The mobil version of forscan I only use for reading fault codes and checking values like DPF regeneration. For enable cruise I used the forscan windows version with extended license and also tried with elmconfig.

I enabled cruise control  with forscan extended license. Very easy and it works fine. I also enabled door locking while driving. Now I am thinking about the 130hp changing it with the engineering mode to 140hp..

Why stop at 140 ? May as well go at least 150 👍

Sometimes things take a little more doing than just making a change with a computer 😉
