Ford Galaxy 2016 Hard Brake Pedal Wont Start

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have a 2016 Automatic 2.0L

The car wont even crank the brake pedal is rock hard and wont start

Its a push start so cant jump the car

Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

You can jump push-button start in the same way as a key barrel car.  It does just sound like your battery is flat.

Fair enough.  That's nothing to do with the start button though.  What's happening when you try to start, is the ignition coming on as normal?  Does it say 'press brake' or anything like that?

Was the brake pedal hard the first time you pressed it?  Or has it only got harder since 2 or 3 presses?  If the pedal switch isn't moving far enough, that won't let the engine start.  Usually there's 2 or 3 presses of vac assist leftover from the last time the engine was running.

Pull the brake switch out and press it by hand while pushing the start button.

Could it be a brake sensor issue?

I think @TomsFocus meant to pull the brake pedal out and then press it down(or not?)

The thing about the brake pedal being hard...if it NEVER  feels normal, i.e. there is no servo assistance then there may be a lack of vacuum from the pump and that is needed to operate many other actuators so that is something to look into?

It's looking more like you need to check battery (if it is not cranking at full speed, reliably) and then get some fault codes to see what may be going on?

Please explain the issue better.

I'm reading it as:

Can you get ignition when you press the start button?

But the engine won't crank because it's not getting the signal that you've pressed the brake pedal?

The OP confirmed this as a starter motor fault over PM.
