Transit Custom - Sliding door mechanism

Featured Replies

Hello All!

I bought a Transit Custom (68plate) a few months ago from a private seller. He told me at the time that the previous owner had had something installed that stops the sliding door from being able to be opened from the outside, only from the inside. However he told me that this could essentially be 'hooked' on and off.

On removing the plastic guard on the inside of the van to see whats going on with the mechanism, this is what I see. Does anybody know what I'm looking at here, and what it might require for me to remove this feature and gain ability to open the door from the outside? Am I going to need to get a lock specialist out for this?

Any advice is really appreciated!! 😁

Looks like just a lump of wood glued in to stop mechanism from working. Remove that and id think it will work fine.

More likely a Joiner 🤣

I'm quite sure the van wasn't built with a lump of OSB board jammed in the lock.

🤣 I was pretty surprised when I took the cover off to see that in there honestly!

Thankyou both, I'll have a go at getting it out, just a bit worried of damaging the mechanism and it looks like it might be bonded on there quite strong.

Even if its bonded hard to the door, it will be very easy to remove the vast majority of that OSB with a sharp chisel without doing any damage, thereby allowing the mechanism to work

Update, I've found the end of the external door release. I guess the previous owner disconnected it. Where is this supposed to be connected?
