Fuel cooler

Featured Replies

Hello I have a 2007 ford smax 2.0 tdci titanium 103kw 140ps. So… there is a leak coming from the pipes the go to the fuel cooler under my car but can’t find no information anywhere online. Could someone point me in the right direction to find the parts please…?????

Probably breaker or Ford

Fuel cooler, wow!

Looks like someone has already had a go with those hose clips?

What parts do you need?

I'd clean off the muck, find which joint is leaking and repair that with new hose of the correct size.

If the pipes are metal (?) then they would have to be cut back beyond any corrosion leak and, again, flexible pipe (correctly supported and protected.

That's what I see from those pics unless there are special parts needed.

A bit like the cracked Mondeo plastic fuel heater which I took out (and never noticed the difference) I can't see the need for a cooler (so would consider rationalising the pipework if necessary, and taking it out) but, of course, someone may  know different if I'm missing the point?

That's all a bodge.  The original pipes were plastic with quick release connectors.

Catcar shows pipe routes, but there are several options so would be best to use you VIN number to narrow them down.

The fuel cooler is in the return line.  Diesel gets heated by compression in the HP pump so it is cooled in the return line to prevent hot diesel going back into the tank.

@TomsFocus Any idea why don't I have one on 2011 (unless I've never seen it?)

It's in a weird place, about half way along the car, so it could easily be missed when most work is done at the front or rear.

Back in my Peugeot days they were being fitted to HDi's from 1999 so it's not a modern thing.
