2015 Custom rough idle

Featured Replies

Hi, 1st timer here, hope someone can help!! 2015 2.2 custom, rough idling. Started 3 years ago, only in winter, now doing it when even when a little warmer. So....it generally starts ok in a morning, then, for duration of the 1st journey of the day (regardless of length of journey) its shaky at idle (the seat even shakes a bit!!)  Whike its in this 'stage' it feels a bit 'flat' on acceleration and sounds 'tappy'. When engine turned off and left for at least an hour or 2, it seems to be rectified. Example 1....drive for an hour (engine hot), turn ,off and immediately turn back on and it will still be shaky. Example 2....drive for 20 mins, leave for an hour, it seems to be fine!! Smoother, quieter acceleration as well. Had glow plugs done (but they weren't warn), had fuel filter done, had full diagnostic done with compression test, all OK. It's slowly driving me nuts....HELP...many thanks.

Have you checked the engine mounts?

Try good quality diesel with some additives (especially cetane boosters) and see if it goes away

Other than that, test the injectors

Hi dave.

Thanks for the advice.

I don't think it's engine mounts (not that I'm an expert...I'm a plumber!!) because it goes away after driving/stopping for a length of time.

How would i use diesel with additives?

The injectors was suggested as a possible cause but he wasn't 100% sure and as they are very expensive, did not want me to spend £1200 + if it wasn't that. Is there a way to check them without replacing them?

Cheers Paul

I run both of my 2.0 Ecoblue vehicles on Tesco diesel. God knows what it contains but both run just fine. Every little helps 😂
