Yet another cluster question!

Featured Replies

mk2 focus (2010) - cluster has died a horrible death (liquid related along with magic smoke).

How hard is it to code a replacement cluster with forscan?

Are you sure it can't be repaired by @rd457 ?

If it is totally dead and can't be fixed then you are going to need the exact same part number.

So any cluster cant be added and coded?

No.

It has to be the same part number. Then it can have your vehicles "AsBuilt" file loaded.

Also needs to have LESS mileage than your car so that the mileage can be corrected upwards. FORScan can't reduce mileage on a replacement IC

oh wow so no cluster upgrades at all? ok will have a good look then!

You can fit a MK3.5 but you need to change the steering wheel to MK3.5 too for the buttons to work

But not, say, a large lcd model from the small one on a mk 2?

Your profile says 2013 so I presumed you were talking about MK3

You "can" upgrade the cluster to one from a higher spec, but you will need to configure it back down to your vehicle's spec using FORScan

You MUST make sure the speedometer read the same max figure

You must make sure the rev counter is petrol or diesel depending on your vehicle

And as @unofix says the mileage MUST be less than your current cluster so you can use FORScan to roll the mileage forwards

Then you will need to reprogram the keys to the PATS system as the car won't start

Ive sent Lyndon a message about the current one. Might be fixable? Changing to a different one sounds a faf.

Ohh, yikes. I can have a look at it if you want but by the sounds of it that thing might be toast. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

A 2010 will be a facelifted model, usually referred to on here as a Mk2.5.

I'm totally confused. I received for repair it yesterday, fearing the worst from the description of events in the first post. The front was rather mucky, but not clearly from liquid damage. It powered on just fine. After taking it apart there was nothing to suggest that it had suffered liquid damage, no signs of liquid on it, no stickiness, no grime, etc, no signs of heat damage from the smoke that supposedly came out of it, nothing at all wrong, everything looked perfectly normal.

Additionally, the solder joints looked like they had never been worked on before, there were still tiny solder balls between some pins which I often find, left over from manufacturing, and yet no visible signs of cracking at all that I could see, which is a first, there's always been at least some faint sign on a pin or two at least. The LCD had a white plastic sheet on the back rather than orange which is odd because I believed white ones were only found in Kugas.

I've redone the connector joints anyway and it's on its way back.

Do you get the feeling that you're not been told the whole story ?

I assume you kept details of the full part number.

No idea at all at the moment, I've asked for more info and waiting on a reply.

I always keep a bunch of photos just in case I ever need them.

As i said in PM, the car isnt mine - and the reg is ET10EKC. The `smoke` bit came from the car owner and i saw myself it had the classic cluster faults - a rap to the top of the dash would bring usage back.
