Looking to upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade my '63 Galaxy to a 2-3 year-old model with an automatic gearbox and higher specifications. Ideally, I'd prefer one with a sunroof but **without** leather seats.

This will be our primary family car, driven approximately 5,000 miles annually.

I’d appreciate any recommendations on which model would be a good fit.

Thank you

Anything without the combination of a Ford badge and an automatic transmission

If it must be another Galaxy then go manual

Dave isn't much of a fan of any Ford automatic transmission ever since he drove a Model T auto 🤣

Ford and automatic is a combination that makes me shudder with fear.

A bit like 1 litre and Ecoboost

Or Labour and Government

The last of the Galaxy’s (in the 2-3 year old bracket) mainly came in two trim levels Titanium and Titanium Lux (there was a Zetec option as well but it has lower specs)

Every Lux extra was optional on the Titanium and if you go on auto trader etc you can find some examples with all of what you want (pan roof etc) minus the Lux Leather seats etc

The later “Auto” boxes with the dial have slightly better reliability but if your only doing 5k per year and get the gearbox serviced you should be ok.
I was looking at auto when getting my Galaxy but after all the issues I saw online with it I got a manual and Sod’s Law the Gearbox failed 😂 but at least I know I have a new gearbox with only 6k on it

so yeah start looking at the Titanium’s and go from there I would say if using auto trader be aware that for some reason it shows 2025 Galaxys you can find some very late 24 plates but they were stopped being made/produced in early 2023

mk3 (2016 onwards) powershift is more reliable than the previous version - the engines can be more problematic. 2012 powershift is just like a Tory government, fall apart at the whim.
