Help me please

Featured Replies

I have very recently purchased a 2017 Mk8 3 door Automatic Fiesta Zetec.

I was told that it was fitted Standard with “Basic cruise control” however my Ford Dealer assures me that it is Not installed.

It appears that CC can be retro installed by replacing the s/wheel combination switch and reprogramming the Sync3.

I would also like to have the Reverse Camera system. Is there a plug and play retro fit  available ?

please can anyone help ? Thanks !
The reason for wanting these mods is to make the car more useable to me as an elderly driver.

Hi Robin.

Cruise was only an option on the Zetec, sounds as if yours hasn't got it. By "basic cruise control" the dealer may mean the speed limiter function which you should have.

Couple of earlier threads on this topic which may be of help:

Thank you Eric.

To let you know a little bit more.

I have recently bought my Fiesta to replace a 2023 Vauxhall Mokka, premium, As I no longer plan to go touring both here and in Europe.

The Fiesta absolutely suits me but sadly does not have the few items I miss from owning the Mokka.

Sat Nav, ok I can use google from my phone.

Cruise Control, was told it was standard

Reverse Camera, essential in any car.

Front Parking Sensors, essential as you can’t see the nose when parking.

The local Ford Dealer states Point Blank that none of the systems can be retro fitted or activated by new parts or reprogramming of SYNC. My car info says it is SYNC 3.Build Late 2017 Mk8. Eco boost 1 litre Automatic. 3 door.

I am now a Senior citizen and these aids are to me very important, not as a show off but all are Safety Aids.

Eric are you able to advise me what to do ?

regards Robin

Two issues here I think:

Firstly, if you have only very recently purchased the car and it was misrepresented to you, then your rights under Consumer Protection Legislation would apply:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/advice/how-does-the-consumer-rights-act-protect-you-when-you-buy-a-car

It would certainly be easier to reject the car If possible, and find one with everything you do want.

If you don't want or aren't able to go down that route, then I think you are probably going to have to look at the aftermarket options.

I got my first Mk 8 Fiesta in 2018 and very few of the features you mention were standard, you had to be very careful with the options list when ordering to get cruise, rear sensors and reverse camera. Front sensors were only available at that time as part of the Auto Park Assist pack.

Fiesta specs have varied greatly since then and at frequent intervals, so finding a used model with a particular spec can be a nightmare.

Links to a few more relevant threads below, also something on aftermarket cameras.

Can't really help much further I'm afraid - one of our electrical geniuses may pop up with further thoughts.

Just another thought - as the dealer seems to have misled you to some extent, did they also fail to advise you that the timing and oil pump belts will require replacement in the next couple of years?

Hi Robin, the best solution is to change the car for one that has the things you feel that you need, as Roger has said above.

Many of the things you want can be added, but not by the Ford dealer who is prohibited by Ford form changing things like Cruise Control.

The problem that I see is that you are not likely to be doing any of the work yourself and as such this could get very costly.

What model of Fiesta do you have (trim level) ?

Sat Nav, would be the most difficult and costly to add, but the others can be achieved.

So not a lot of kit as standard, unfortunately.

Ah !!

A 2017 Zetec did come with two front seats and a steering wheel, unlike the later models 🤣
