2018 Galaxy 2 Liter ecoboost(petrol) oil/transmission fluid

Featured Replies

Hi,

We just bought a 2018 Galaxy, and I prefer to do the scheduled maintenance myself.

What type of engine oil and Auto transmission fluid do you recommend?

I looked on the owners manual(web version) and it says for engine oil use: WSS-M2C948-B specification, but no viscosity, for example 5w30, 5w20, 0w30.

for those with petrol 2 liter ecoboost engines, what brand/type of engine oil are you using?

Thanks for any help.

All the links I see for that engine oil are 5W-20. Brand, you choose and pay the price you're happy with!

Regarding auto, if it ain't Powershift I would have to go by the service schedule - is it in the handbook or someone on here knows, based on the transmission type, which is ?

As above, the Ford specs only refer to one viscosity each.  This one is 5w20.

Though that is an 'old' oil spec now which might have been superseded since the handbook was written.  If you contact your local Ford dealer they should confirm what the current recommended spec is.

thanks for all of the replies.

is it possible to get the part/model number of the transmission with the VIN?  If it is, how can I do this?

The guy I spoke to at my local Ford dealer said it's not a Powershift, but he's not sure which model it is, but he's sure it has a torque converter.

I originally wanted to buy the transmission filter and fluid, so I can change it myself, and the parts guy said there is no filter, it's a sealed for life transmission.

Has anyone ever heard of a "sealed for life" automatic transmission?

Thanks for any help.

Sealed for life, is normal for most Ford automatic gearboxes of those used in Europe and the UK.

I might be able to do it from either reg or VIN.  But my source doesn't always specify the gearbox type.

Hi Unofix,

May I ask how many miles your Focus has on it?

Have you ever changed and/or flushed the Auto Transmission fluid?

Thanks.

It presently has 34,268 miles on the clock.

The gearbox is working fine. Have not changed transmission fluid and I'm working on the principal "if it ain't broke, leave it alone"

thanks for the info

Mine has 60,000 miles, and I don't think it has ever been changed.

I was asking because I was thinking about doing a drain and flush, but most people on the American Ford forums say if it hasn't been changed every 30,000 miles DO NOT flush, only change the fluid.  The reasoning is a flush after more than 30K could induce new problems.

I'm going to change but not flush the fluid.

Thanks
