Forscan capabilities

Featured Replies

Hi,

we just got a 2018 Galaxy, and i have a TPMS light, and check engine light on the 2nd day of ownership...yeah

I verified the tire pressures twice yesterday, they are all exactly where they should be.

I scanned the vehicle with my Foxwell scanner that only has generic OBDII capabilities for Ford, and I have a P0141...Bank 1 Sensor 2, O2 sensor heater circuit fault(check Engine light)

I downloaded Forscan, and ordered the Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter cable which should be arriving tomorrow.

My questions:

can Forscan detect which TPMS sensor is bad?

can Forscan do any active tests on the O2 sensor system to determine if possible wiring fault, or sensor itself?  I'm suspecting a bad O2 sensor, should I get the sensor from a Ford dealer, or is Denso OK?

Thanks for any help

Forscan is awesome you won't be disappointed, however it will not tell you which tpms sensor is faulty if your vehicle doesn't have the option to give individual tire pressures/hence if your vehicle doesn't tell you, neither will forscan.

For the O2S, it may provide more detailed DTC, such as DTC P0141:xx or P0141:xx-y. This will lead to a specific fault and troubleshooting or pinpoint test. It won't tell you anything more than that. A fault in the bank1 sensor 2(downstream) component.

If you search forum for pinpoint test, there is an excellent DTC chart and Pinpoint test that will direct you through testing. (Thanks to Ahmad!!) To test the O2S first, (I recommend) go to DW19 for specific sensor (HO2S12 in your case). If it turns out ok, go back to beginning of pinpoint test DW. (pg 210)

Oh... and I recommend a FORD part for the O2S. I've on numerous occasions used aftermarket only to pull them out 2 days later and get FORD part and no further issues. I like aftermarket but when it comes to O2S I've learned to stick with OEM.

Yes it should be possible on a 2018 Galaxy.

Just remember that the batteries in the TPMS only last 7 to 10 years. If one has failed then the others won't be far behind. Often it's just better to replace them all at the same time.

Thanks for all of the info.

i used Forscan for the first time today...I cleared the code for the O2 sensor, then  it came back after about 1 hour of driving the vehicle.

I went to the Ford dealer this morning(I'm American but live in Germany) and they said an O2 sensor is €299 i.e. about £ 252...is this the going rate?  This sounds crazy expensive to me.

Are there any reputable brands that are the same or better quality than OEM?

Also, I think I'm gonna need a special O2 sensor socket to remove it, can anyone confirm the size is 22mm?

thanks for any help

Just a regular 22mm socket will work just fine. Cut the cable off the old sensor, after all it's of no use.

The new one can be screwed in by hand and just nipped up with a regular open ended spanner.

Does Forscan "live data" have the ability to view O2 sensor data/voltages?

If it does, how do I select this PID, from within Forscan?

Thanks

just an update for my situation.

the O2 sensor was changed, and a TPMS relearn performed about 2 weeks ago, and both problems seem to have been solved.

I had a shop change the O2 sensor, as the dealer paid for the repair.

On a side note; the after cat O2 sensor is in a bear of a spot(without a lift) on this model, that's why I took it to a shop.

Thanks for all the help
