UK Ford Fusion 2009 - “Driver door open”

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

I have an issue with my UK 2009 Ford Fusion where the door sensor seems to be broken. The car is flashing up a warning “Driver door is open” and it beeps loudly. I have to sometimes slam the door 2/3 times and it can take a while to get the message to disappear. I have tried spraying WD40 is the door latch but this doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Any ideas for a quick fix please or is it a case of getting the whole door latch changed at the garage?

many thanks

Andy

I have the same problem with mine, I spray electrical cleaner down the door lock which helps, even though they say the switch is sealed in.

I find it worse in hot weather and I have had to take out the central locking fuse and lock the doors manually when it is really bad.

I can't decide where to take it to get the switch replaced and I know it is going to cost but it is a nightmare at the moment, so if anyone can recommend a garage in south Essex I would appreciate it.

I am afraid this is a known problem, I have changed two of these locks, one in a 2007 Fiesta, and one in a 2010 Fusion, both front passenger doors.  The Fiesta also showed signs of the lock being replaced earlier and the Fusion suffers with intermittent door open alarms for both rear doors.  Assuming it is not wiring, or the connector in the "A" post, then a replacement lock is the optimum solution.

This is what you are up against - buried deep in the door.....

I have the same problem but I've found that if I pull the interior door release lever a little, it temporarily cures the problem. I sometimes find that turning the ignition key on and off after pulling the lever seems to help, too.

Hi guys, I have same problem with a 59 plate, on the n/s/f door. Just called dealer and part is still available on special order for £387. Can you believe it? Daylight robbery.

Yes, I can, I have now replaced three different locks on our Fusion, but the most expensive one is the driver's door.

And they are a pain to change ! If you are following Hayners, taking the speaker off gives you a bit more wiggle room !

hi in july 2024 i posted a door sensor fix / bypass for a previous 09 fusion, finding the wire at the lock connector within the door panel and putting it to earth. i have now done a different and easier fix on my 08 fusion which i,ll post tomorrow. no need to buy new lock assy.

hi this door ajar fix is on my fusion 1.6tdci 08, nsf door.

my previous fix on an 09 involved getting access inside the inner door panel, tracing the sensor wire and putting it to permanent earth.

this method is 10 times easier, remove part of the door rubber, glovebox and loose carpet trim under box, ease the sill to glovebox trim out and off the bonnet release lever, and put aside , no need to remove it fully, slide the seat back, find the wiring loom before it goes to the door frame multi connector, unwrap the tape to expose wiring, you are looking for a black and yellow striped wire, use a scotchlock with 1ft of wire to a ring connector and fit it to the nearby earth bolt, turn ignition on and confirm the warning is off even with the door open, this does mean that the interior light wont come on when the door is open but you can live with that. just to be awkward there are 2 black / yellow wires going to the multi connector one has a wider yellow stripe, if you connect the wrong wire to earth , A, the warning light wont go off and B, the mirror fuse will blow when you adjust the mirror. i have posted several fixes in the past, glow plug bypass, and egr valve cleaning.
