Ford Galaxy 2.0 diesel, long life oil change

Featured Replies

Hello all,

on this engine, we have prescribed by Ford to change oil after 30000 km, use 0W-30 oil WSS-M2C950-A... Now my car is at 70000km, and I start to worry about such long oil change intervals. I consider changing oil after max 15000km, I think it is better for engine.

How long intervals for oil change do you use? thanks for sharing

Also, if by any chance you know where oil filter is located? Not visible from the top, probably from bellow?

Thanks

I'm a tightwad (don't change stuff unnecessarily) but regardless of anything else, if you are happy with and keeping the car long term (and why not?) I'd change the oil and filter every year.

I don't know your engine but our filter is hidden under the front, needing a special bent spanner to get at it easily. Used it multiple times so a good buy.

We have a diesel 2021 2,0 Ecoblue, 1110Kw YMCB engine. We took it with 5 years service included in price from Ford, service each 30000km. but only 70000km done, so we will not make to the next service in time...

but, I agree, after one year it is worth changing. I will figure out where oil filter is, get oil from e-shop and change myself once per year.

I agree with Shearers, however, I also think it depends on how many miles you drive in a year.

I would change the oil every 5,000 miles/8,000km max.

I just got a 2018 Galaxy 2 liter Ecoboost gasoline/petrol and I'm probably gonna change it every 3-4K.  In my experience, preventive maintenance is key to longevity.

Most manufacturers are recommending longer service intervals, but I have heard about many expensive repair bills when following their recommendations.

This is just my 2 cents worth.

Generally agree with @dudeman especially about the (very) long recommended change periods (do we have a "thing" 😉?)
As we do about 8k/yr yearly does for me (I have set my maintenance for August - better weather to crawl around)  as lower mileage can mean short journeys, meaning not fully warm meaning harder on the oil.
As ever, to each his own (based on manufacturers being the absolute max)

I have a Focus but with a 2017 2L TDCi 150 PS. One year after buying from a dealer, who had an invoice for oil filter change, my info display said oil degraded please change now.

So I had a full service at an independent garage locally who said next year just have oil and filter changed, not air/pollen etc.

So I'll do that . Yes, it is dear as holds over six litres and oil is expensive, if quality nowadays. But engines are more expensive.

Long life oil is a gimmick, it's just to keep up with other manufacturers who offer longer service lives to get sales

Long life wet belt life is also a gimmick on the 2.0 Ecoblue.

Diesel combustion puts lots of small pieces of carbon in the oil.

Diesel DPF regeneration puts lots of Diesel fuel into the oil

Diesel and carbon  contamination can damage the wet belts

If you're doing long journeys then change the oil every 15,000KM, if you're doing lots of short journeys change the oil every 10,000KM

Have the vehicle serviced at the appropriate times to meet the service schedule you have paid for but change the oil yourself at the intervals suggested in between

makes sense, more often better... get oil in e-shops cheaper, change at home when possible....

interesting, I did change oil in Ford service, at 30k and 60k. and I never needed to put oil in between. on the other hand, I drive on lower RPM on engine...

I do have now 70k, so 10k after oil change, and 1 year time...., I have a trip to Prague, 800km, and I will change the oil...

thanks for insights and good luck

I would change the oil every 4K miles, it’s really easy to do, problem is you cant get all the old oil out, when you drain the oil there is still 1.5l of old oil in the engine, I recommend getting 2 oil filters which are not that expensive and two lots of oil and change the oil twice, drop the old oil fill with the new and run for a few mins then change it again, obviously you aren’t going to want to do this every time but every couple years

Mr. Castrol recommends doing a full oil and filter change every time you stop to fill up with fuel. He's never had any problems with the oil, and he can get it from work for free 🤣

two lots of oil

Lets not get into the use of solvent flush (saves that expensive oil) or you could use Marmite (has it spread to Other/Non UK)?

i religiously change oil at 5kmiles/6 months whichever comes first. for the cost of it, its worth it to me

100 percent swearwolf after 4K I can hear the engine is not as quite as happy so it’s time for me to do another oil change, I know people advise against it but I used the Forté wet belt flush on mine and it made a massive difference to how the engine runs from start up, plus these engines are welt belt so clean oil is surely going to help
