Galaxy 2011 2.0tdci smoking

Featured Replies

Hello 👋

I have a 2011 2.0tdci galaxy that emits white/blue smoke in hard acceleration. It takes about 3/4 miles to start doing it from cold. It does NOT smoke on tickover. Occasionally I’m hearing the big fan come on too .. which makes me believe it could be related to the DPF??

For now I have unplugged the MAP sensor, as somehow this has bypassed the smoking problem. The turbo still spools up as I can hear it, but I’m limited to 3k revs and it’s gutless.

I ran a quick forscan on it and it did come up with a DPF regen conditions not met fault code. I have also seen a soot accumulated load of around 65%, iirc.

I suppose my questions are .. does this sound DPF related? And why would removing the MAP sensor stop my smoking?

Disconnecting the MAP just prevents regens, so the DPF will be even more full now.  That's not really a long term solution.

If you're getting a lot of grey then I suspect the glowplug has failed in the vaporiser, so it's just dumping raw diesel into the DPF rather than fire to ignite the soot.

Agree about testing the vaporiser (our original stopped working after 85k, in 2019)

This is one of Jimmy's many DPF/vaporiser videos that show you the methods he uses:

The failure points are:
The glowplug:
Test fuses, relay (check your handbook) and continuity, if open circuit it has failed (sounds most likely as above?) BUT if on the low side of 1.1 Ohms i.e anywhere near 0.8, it may blow the fuse and need changing.
Fuse No.2 MAY be implicated and may not be itemised on the fusebox lid.

The vaporiser outlet being blocked:
Clamp the fuel pipe to avoid the need to prime the system (I don't think Forscan can do it?)
Add another pipe and try to blow through, there should be no resistance, if there is, it is blocked, needs clearing or more likely replacement.

The pump:
According to a trusted specialist, he has never known one to fail but if the other items are found good that would have to be tested (it should pulse when operating correclty during a regen) Again from above doesn't look like your issue.

Wiring faults.
