Galaxy 2.2TDCI Auto gearbox "jerk"

Featured Replies

Evening

I've recently bought a Galaxy Titanium X 2.2tdci on 100k miles.

When pulled away after stopping and starting in traffic the gearbox makes a "thud/jerk" when I come off the break and before I've put my foot on the accelerator. Only does it in traffic, otherwise it's a dream to drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks

When was the gearbox last fully serviced ? Has it ever been serviced ?

Also driveshaft from diff to wheel esp. long bolt fixing splined driveshaft to hub (but gearbox service oil and filter is crucial anyway)?

Would low battery cause this? I've been getting warning for low battery. Bearing in mind this isn't an auto stop/start car.

Oh, absolutely!

Powershi*ts hate low voltage.

If you don't know when the battery was last changed, get a new one, fully charge it before fitting, then perform a transmission reset, it doesn't matter that it's a Focus

I don't "do" Galaxy models but the 2.2 Mondeo has Aisin Warner normal torque converter type trans - would not the 2.2 Galaxy have same?

Yes, this needs to be determined, can @Nelly1985 please confirm?

That's a good point.

Yes it's the 2.2 Aisin gearbox

Ah, OK then.

Yes, battery voltage can hinder slightly, but not that much, unless it's really low.

You've done over 100,000 miles, the fluid has probably never been changed.

Get the Fluid changed ASAP.

You'll only get about 3 litres out, drain and change about 3 times

Try adding a bottle of Lubegard Platinum ATF protectant too

If it's still playing up after that then suspect faulty torque converter or blocked/faulty solenoids
