Advice on Galaxy to upgrade to from 2013 Titanium 2.0 TDCI

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Looking for some advice on changing our galaxy for a newer one.

We currently have a 2013 Titanium 2.0 TDCI (163ps) Manual and it's been perfect but it's getting on a bit now so I was going to start looking at something newer.

Just starting to research what's available in the 2016-2020 age range and was after some initial advice on things to avoid e.g certain engines, extras that cause grief, glass roof issues etc.

I'd like pretty much a like for like of what we currently have, is that engine still available in the newer age.

Something that always makes me nervous is additional electrics that can go wrong, I notice some have electrically folding rear seats(?) and multi adjust front ones. Our current Galaxy is quite simple in that regard. Maybe I'm just being over cautious?

Are there any infotainment/radio options that should be avoided?

Sorry for the rambling post, I'm just trying to narrow things down a bit as the possibilities of different specs seem endless otherwise.

Thank you .

Hi,

I went from the same to a 2017 Galaxy

as you have a titanium I would stick to the same trim level on a a newer Galaxy as the Zetecs loose a lot of features (CC, digital dash and navigation)

if sticking with the 2.0 Diesel the engine it was available in 3 version 120bhp, 150bhp and a 180bhp (there is a 4th bi turbo version @ 210bhp but quite rare) all engines are quite reliable as long as they are maintained.

Them biggest issue can be the power shift gearbox but if your happy to have a manual again you should be fine .

interior wise the Galaxy’s age fairly well with no major issues I have the pano roof in my titanium and it works great. With the seats the two rear seats a always electric folding the middle row depends on if it was spec’ed I have the fully electric folding seats and they still have the red pull cord if they fail, to fold them etc.

for those years as well the was two main Packs you could add the Family Pack which adds blinds in the rear windows and and a 230v socket in the rear and the winter pack which added heated front seats

(there is a few other optional packs like driver assist however)

on the titanium as standard you get lane assist, traffic sign recognition, which was a extra on the 2013 version

infotainment wise the early MY16/66 come with Sync 2 available in two versions, Ford and a Sony version which does the job but it doesn’t support CarPlay or Android auto

late MY66/17 have Sync 3 again in two versions a Ford unit and a Sony unit. (The Sony Version comes with better speakers and a subwoofer but functionality the systems are the same) and fully supports CarPlay and Android auto

you can find lots of Titanium’s with great specs (sometimes better than a standard Titanium X) so I would start there and good luck with the search!

If I have missed anything let me know!

After my already mentioned fiasco of attempting to look for something to replace 2011 S-MAX (the £50 trade in offer!) and looking at Touran/Tourneo Connect/S-MAX hybrid. We could not find anything we really liked at a price we thought reasonable - Ford hybrids are a reliability concern?) We therefore decided to keep it for as long as possible.

As said with regular maintenance these engines appear to be good for at least 150000 miles as a minimum (with a bit of luck, of course -see Alan Howatt who has run a Mondeo taxi fleet with the same engines)
We think the large distracting centre screens and all of the gadgets often add nothing (and some are regularly disabled by owners?)
We are both well down the depreciation curve so likely worth little to nothing compared to the cost to change.
However, have fun looking and hope you find a way to make a decision (do let me know with pictures)!

Hi there,

we have a diesel Galaxy, manual gearbox, 2021 production, basic pack, at 70000km now. All that got broken was battery, after two years, but changed in warranty by Ford. Otherwise, very nice running car, low diesel consumption, it shows 6,4 liter of diesel.

rear seats are electric to put down, but you can do it manually too.

manual gearbox is very cool.

really nice car. I feel sorry they stopped to make them

well, the front windshield, I got already twice smashed it on highway by stones from other vehicles... lucky covered by insurance. but expensive change, about 1500 EUR, heated glass. I was thinking if it is not due to angle of the windshield...

good luck
