Whirring noise in Focus during cold starts lasting 15seconds

So, I had to get to the other end of the problem somehow. And I did.

I gave the car for wet belt replacement and mechanic came back with additional part replacement for Oil pump since he said it’s badly clogged up by the belt fragments(The very noise was from that filter).

I am no expert, I could only say yes to it. Now am thinking, was that unnecessary?🤔

The oil pump can be cleaned.  But that is not always 100% effective, so replacement can be a better option.

Hmm. I felt the same. Why to take chance on something which can be a pain in future?

Anyway, your response is very comforting Tom. ☺️

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

So I'd had this noise for a little while, nobody could figure it out.

Then I found that the oil light was staying on slightly longer than I felt comfortable with.  So I took it in, the mechanic wasn't sure what the noise was, but recommended a timing belt replacement due to the oil light and the age of the car.  Happy to do that, I've always been lax with servicing and the like on previous cars and I like this one and want to keep it going.

I picked it up this morning, he had already started it and said there was no buzz on cold starting, so he believed it was down to a pressure issue what with the clogging.  Will confirm tonight when I leave work (another time it buzzes) but it sounds like that's resolved it.

Just for anyone who might like to know.
