AW-80 transmission

Featured Replies

I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows a solution. I have a 2009 1.6 petrol Fusion with an AW-80 transmission. The transmission if okay when driving normally, but when accelerating hard or especially encountering a hill, it seems reluctant to change and will rev beyond 5000. We have scanned and received the fault “P1719 ENGINE TORQUE SIGNAL”. I’ve searched this online, but the results are a bit vague.

I would appreciate any help, thanks.

What mileage ?

When was the gearbox last fully serviced ?

AW-80 is a 6 speed Aisin??

Are you sure?

I'd have said 4F1E in a Euro Fusion (Fiesta)
But, as @unofix says, when was the fluid changed?

Auto boxes are very easily thrashed, especially women or if the vehicle is overloaded or towing beyond it's limits.

Suggest looking at the fluid & possible internal filter.

The transmission fluid will breakdown very quickly on auto boxes, it's not the same as a manual box.

The torque converter may have issues or the weires in the box may be blocked.

As an investigation, check the colour & level of the fluid, if it's brown it's cooked & never changed.

I've had auto boxes in the past, without issues, due to very regular servicing, good fluid keeps them alive.

Thanks for all your input, but the car has only done 17,000 miles and been serviced regularly. I suspect it's an electrical problem.

Which does not include the gearbox service which has to be requested separately to a 'service'

The car is 16 years old and has only covered 17,000 miles. so it does just a little over 1000 miles a year, hardly surprising the gearbox is playing up.

@DaveT70  what's your thoughts ?

Hi bob, it's like all things, if you don't use them often, things start to breakdown, low mileage doesn't mean it's AOKY, I've almost rebuilt my 1.4tdci fusion with only 39000mls & 19 years old.

A lot of low mileage older cars have only been used for shopping trips, never been only 50mph, there's loads where I live, spend 6 days of the week on the driveway.

Hope you get it fixed, I'm going to do further mods soon, also looking at another fusion project, great cars even the younger generation think there cool cars.

16 yrs old fluid, it doesn't matter how many miles it's done, it's 16 years old.

Change the fluid, twice as you won't get all of it out and see if it improves.

Change it while it's warm (the transmission), run it for a week, change it again, just drain and refill and level
