Shaking at 50mph

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for a bit of help. I’ve been trying to figure out a really annoying vibration that starts around 40mph and gets pretty bad by 50mph in my 2013 Ford Galaxy. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m braking or not, but it does feel worse in 5th gear than 6th. It’s mainly felt through the steering wheel.

So far I’ve had:

Lower arms replaced

Passenger side driveshaft changed (inner knuckle had come apart)

Driverside inner and outer track rod ends replaced

Tracking and wheel balancing done (alignment was way out)

One engine mount replaced

Passenger side front wheel bearing replaced.

Brake calipers checked, don't seem to be sticking.

Steering doesn’t pull now after the alignment, but the vibration is still there at the same speeds. We think it might be the rear passenger wheel bearing. It did feel a bit better when I first drove it today, but got worse the longer I was on the road. Weirdly doesn’t seem as bad going uphill.

Anyone had similar issues or know what else it could be? Starting to feel like I’m just throwing parts at it!

Warped wheel? Dodgy tyre?

Won't show up on balancing.

Swap wheels front to back, see if it goes away

Is it road specific? That Glenshane Pass is just dreadful 🤣

Worse in a lower gear than a higher one. Sounds like a gearbox bearing might be on the way out as irrespective of the gear selected, the driveshaft is rotating at the same speed for a given road speed.
