Is this a fault or feature?

 

Presumably, as a default, all airbags should be on, so what's the point in this announcement? 

 Because I it càn be 

Switched off.

 

It's a feature.  The passenger airbag can be deactivated if you have a small child in the front seat.  But must be activated for any other passenger.  So there is now a constant 'reminder' for both options on modern Fords.

In Korean cars, yellow signs mean that something is not right, red - outright danger.

It will take me some time to get used to the Ford's colour pattern on the dash.. 

 

I like the idea of the tape, but I am sure there must be a diode behind..waiting to be desoldered....

You're kind of correct, but don't !!

The LED warning light is monitored and if it fails (like it's been removed) it will turn on the main Airbag warning light in the instrument cluster to indicate there is a fault with the SRS.
