[Mark3, 2018, T7CL) Reversing camera installation.

Featured Replies

Meticulous preparation and execution failed..

At all times, I took particular care not to stress or bend the wires.

1. Camera from eBay:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286142802070

2. A bit of consideration whether to install it instead of left or right registration plate lamp. Decided on the left, as it was closer to the factory hole/grommet

3. I removed both stop lights, hoping it will make it easy to remove the plastic with the reg plate. It didnt, but at least I was able to clarify, that the grey wire is the reverse light +

4. Cable went through the gromet neatly. A bit of soldering done.

5. Signal cable had an extra short piece of wire. It is called trigger. I have also connected it to the +

6. I was able to thread the cable through rubber connecting trunk to the chassis. Cable went left on the top of ceiling material and to the left rear pillar, then down, then toards the rear passenger cup holder above the wheel arch, then uder the plastic trim.

7. close to the passenger seat I realised, That the cable will be too short as I have followed the factory loom.  Worth to mention - So far I did not break anything!

8. Reprogrammed ECU with forscan adding Rear Camera. Connected signal wire to the adaptor harness (worth to mention: THERE IS NO SEPARATE TRIGGER CABLE ANYWHERE)

9. Ignition ON, brake, revers gear ON and... greyish nothing.. after a few seconds message that "camera is not available.

10.  Approx 6 hour lost.

Any idea where that trigger from the back should be connected on the harness loom?

Apparently, the camera had too high resolution for the system. After snipping the optional cable - everything works perfectly well. I am super happy. 🙂

Final cable management near the pollen filter has to be slightly improved, buit it's a doodle.
