Reasonable prices charged for excellent workmanship...

Featured Replies

Recently, @TomsFocus commented that I always seemed to get work done at a reasonable price, I suggested it was because I may live in a smaller community than a big city, and over the decades, you just get to know folk. Tried to find the post but the forum's 'search' function didn't find it.

Case in point this morning, I was having issues with some satellite channels pixilating, so called my guy who I've been using for friends & family for over 30 years. He spent some time with some very impressive diagnostic equipment, got up his ladders, and repaired it. Turns out it was some corrosion on a couple of LNB connectors. Total charge, £30

Can't help thinking that a 'stranger' may have charged for new LNBs and goodness knows what else, with a much larger price. Maybe I am just lucky 🤣

Meanwhile, I'm now having to have all the work redone that wasn't done properly 2 months ago...

It's not so much the cost I commented on before, it's the lack of of competency that annoys me.  Doesn't seem to matter how much is paid, the choices seem to be cheap, slow and poor quality OR expensive, slow and poor quality.

I was just thinking, I have been lucky with 'competency'. The only thing I can remember going wrong was a few years back, I had a front gutter that was overflowing. I got a number out of 'yellow pages' and the bloke came out to repair it for a reasonable £90. Of course, the next heavy rain, it overflowed again. I then got a recommendation from a neighnour. The new guy came out, stripped the front gutter off the soffit, applied new brackets using a 'plumb string' to apply the correct slope, and re-fixed everything. Of course, this time it worked and was actually cheaper than the first guy.
