No one can fix my van 🤷‍♂️

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, just signed up…hi!

I’ve got a 2015 2.2 euro 5 custom with stalling issue, I’ve had 6 different mechanics (two of them I’ve used for years) work on it and still can’t fix the issue.
5 weeks ago it suddenly had a loss of  acceleration and stalled. It did start again after 10 mins but stalled again the following day within 20 mins of driving then wouldn’t start at all.
Every time a part has been changed it’s started up but it’s stalled at some point soon after. There’s no signs of when it will happen, totally random. 1 min, 30 mins, going fast going slow. Sometimes it’s started after stalling within 10 seconds and other times not at all.
5 mechanics and 1 auto electrician (who said the electrics seem fine).it does push out weak black smoke sometimes but this apparently isn’t connected with the issue.
Parts changed…

fuel filter

fuel pump

cam lobe

rail pressure sensor

air filter

injectors

air filter

Other areas that have been dismissed by the mechanics…

egr

maf

dpf

crankshaft sensor

tank pump

The last thing that was mentioned by two mechanics is when it’s stalled…the tank pump is priming but measuring 0bar between the fuel pump and fuel rail.

really at a loss with it, there’s no codes come up either.

anyone have an idea or is Wiltshire based and think they can fix it?

cheers

andy

Issue with fuel tank breather maybe?

I'd say that you need to get yourself the mobile phone version of FORScan, so that you monitor live data, and also read the Ford specific DTS'c as soon as the fault occurs.

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

I’ve got forescan on the laptop but not used it for live data checking yet. I don’t know a great deal about using it apart from looking up codes that come up.
as I understand two of the mechanics used they’re own live data reader and took the van out, when it stalled they were sure it was the rail sensor that needed changing. Done that then it only stalled again.

Thanks! I’ll check this

If these use an electric tank pump, do they also have a pressure sensor on the low side of the fuel system.  These symptoms are similar to a failing tank pump but earlier diesel Fords didn't use one.  I'm not familiar with the 2.2 TDCI but if it definitely does use a tank pump then I'd want to confirm pressure from that one before going any further.

Massively random but it worked on my brothers when someone he knew suggested it ( always worth a try ) remove l can't remember if it was oil called cap n turn it over. My brothers wouldn't randomly start n he's 1 of those who drives like miss daisy n everything has to be original parts 😂 worth a try n hopefully it works for you 🤞

As I understand the fuel is getting to the high pressure pump as the tank pump can be heard priming when turning the key. Not sure if the pressure from it has been checked. I’ll look into that.

It is a proper strange 1, l thought it was crazy when my brother did that 😂 but it worked.. ford along with others have just been making them harder to self repair over time..
