2.2 TDCI: How to clean intake ports + close intake valves?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of replacing the glow plugs.
While doing that, I had the brilliant idea to also take a look at the intake manifold and intake ports...
As you can clearly see, each port has a 3-5mm layer of soot/gunk...

I want to remove as much as possible of this mechanically , but I want to avoid anything getting into the combustion chamber, as well as getting stuck between the valve and the combustion chamber.

-> Where is the best place on the engine to "turn" it to, so the intake valves for each channel can be closed?
-> Do you have any ideas for cleaning? I don't want to buy a blasting machine + walnut shell blasting media just for this...

Thanks 🙂

Hold a strong vacuum  there whilst slowly & gently removing.

Turn the engine so the valve you are working on is closed

Turning the engine -> 6th gear and turning the lifted front axle?

Or is there somewhere a possibility to turn the engine itself with a ratched or similar?

Engine off, neutral, socket and bar on lower (crank) pulley
