245 instead of 235/45/18 - will they fit?

Featured Replies

As above - will a 245 fit without rubbing on full lock or part lock though a bumpy corner?

On a 2012 S Max Sport. Needs 4 new boots and the increased width will give a little extra rim protection. Hopefully slightly more comfort, and imagining similar/mildly improved grip without much more roll in corners.

Thanks.

At one stage, you could buy tyres with "Rim Protection".

I wouldn't expect more grip on anything other than perfectly smooth tarmac.  Wider tyres give less grip on rough surfaces, water and ice.

Changing one width size will only give you an extra 4.5mm of sidewall.  That's not likely to be noticeable in terms of comfort.

You'd be better off going up by one profile instead.  235/50 would give you an extra 12mm of sidewall.  And you can get those with rim protection as suggested above.
