We have a 2013 2.0 diesel galaxy which we are looking to replace with a newer, third gen one. 

Firstly, I'm trying to work out what power of engine we have. Is there somewhere I can look this up?

Secondly, is there a simple way of discerning which diesel engine an advertised galaxy has? (eg engine type\ power). Classified ads have unreliable information.

It lists the engine power on your V5c registration document.

The same site can be used to check power for any car you're looking at buying.  The Galaxy didn't get EcoBlue until around 2018, so it should be fairly easy to work out which engine it has either side of 2018.  If you're looking at 2018 models without engine bay pictures, then we would have to use Fords systems to confirm the engine type in that case, but it is not as quick or easy as the website above.

You seem to.know what power you have now, according to your profile?

The V5C usually gives power in kw, so you need to convert that to ps. (1kw= 1.36ps approx).

Fords normally have a sticker on the front door pillar, usually drivers side, giving details including power, as below:
