2.0 petrol ecoboost 2015/2016 buying

Featured Replies

Hello

Having trawled through the web and what i can of this site i would like some advice, looking to buy a auto of those years i belive 6f35 converter box fitted by then but un sure of old block or one with the water transfer problem i had a 2.0 desiel manual before and it was great but i do very little miles and need an auto.

Thanks

You are correct. The Mk2.0 litre Ecoboost has the Torque converter 6F35 Trans designed by Ford USA in conjuction with GM (General Motors)

The diesel models retain the Getrag Powershift 6DCT450.

Don't bother about the block "problems", compared to many other things they are not really a problem.

I ran a Mondeo Mk4.5 2L ecoboost Titanium X Sport from 2011 to 2015 and then a Mk5 from 2016 onwards, never a problem.

Engine wise look out for the camshaft sensors leaking oil, when they do, if not caught earlier enough, the leaks contaminate the wiring harness which turns out very expensive.

Timing chains becoming stretched and noisy are typical.

At idle the engines sound like a bag of spanners (noisy tappets) but it is normal as it is caused by the injectors being a direct injection system.

Also look out for water hoses degrading that run across the top area of radiator, failure is expensive if engine overheats

Hi TrevorB

Thanks for the reply, good to hear a positive experience I was looking to see weather 2.0 petrol ecoboost 2015/2016 S MAX would have the second gen engine fitted or are they all first gen (L)

types

Regards

Brian, as said, I would not worry about "cyl block problems" they are not problems.

The best place to look for 2L Ecoboost problems is on the Focus ST Forum (a great site that I have been a member of since around 2007) If you look in the Focus ST3 Technical section you will find many concerns but non about the actual cylinder block
