1.4 Zetec Con Rod Big end splitting.

Featured Replies

2011 Fusion 60k burning oil (1ltr -500 miles) the head has been reconditioned following a cam belt issue. Compression slightly lower on one of the cylinders 10% less than the other three. Slight damage to aluminium piston from valve hitting. (Not while running only start up)

i would like to put new rings on the pistons but my investigation suggests the big end (con rod) cannot be re assembled once split. I do not expect the shells will need replacement due to the milage.

Any suggestions welcome.

Haynes (Fiesta, but should be the same) states that Crankshaft should not be removed, but on page 2E17, section 20, para4b,it talks about replacing shells on con-rod.
