would it be a good idea to perform this with my old battery first to see if it works  Otherwise I would need to contact a garage to do this  Unfortunately I do not have a laptop for Forscan just my PC   And does it matter if I delay this after fitting the new  battery for a short while

You won't need FORScan to reset the BMS. It will reset by flashing the headlights and pressing the brake pedal. It's best to do it straight after fitting the new battery. If you left it a week or two before doing it no harm will come, but it would be best to fully charge the battery for 12 hours before doing it.

You are over thinking this. I did a battery change on a Fiesta last week including resetting the BMS, without using FORScan, in under 20 minutes. Your Focus can be done in a similar amount of time.

I am thinking now about changing the battery myself thanks to the this forum and the battery recomended but just a couple more questions

1, Do any of the settings depend on a continous power supply and if so what precautions should I take

2.How tricky is the air filter to remove

Thanks
