What shock absorbers do I need for a mk3 focus st line x

Featured Replies

I need to get new shock absorbers for my mk3 focus st line x 2018 but I understand it has a more sporty suspension than standard models. Do I need to get specific shocks or can I get the ones offered by euro car parts on their website? Places like auto doc also offer up a few different fitment so goping someone could help point me in the right direction.

If you look at generic sites like ECP or Autodoc they should say whether the each shock is for normal models or sports models.

Normal suspension will fit ok.  But there's likely to be more arch gap above the wheel.  Comfort might be better with softer shocks.  Or it might be worse as the spring rates won't be right for softer shocks.

Ultimately the best option is buying genuine Ford shocks based on your VIN number.  But most people will put up with cheaper aftermarket shocks nowadays.

Hi, thanks for your reply but im having no luck in tracking down the official ford parts. The ones on others sites either say st or SFE32/22X153A.

I don't know what those codes are for.  They don't look Ford related.

ST suspension is lower and firmer than ST Line so don't really want that either.

If you contact a Ford dealership and give them your reg they should be able to give you a price on the correct shocks for your car.  It's worth asking for the part number although they may not give it to you.

There are so many options in the parts catalogue that it's virtually impossible for me to choose the correct ones for your car from that.  This list is only for the sports suspension, doesn't include standard or ST/RS!

SFE32/22X153A is a product code for a SACHS gas pressure suspension strut. It specifies that the shock absorber is a suspension strut with a twin-tube design, which is intended to be mounted on the front axle (either left or right depending on the specific part number it is paired with, such as 315 372 or 315 373).

  • SFE: This likely stands for "SACHS," "Front," and a "Gas Pressure" type shock absorber.
  • 32/22: This refers to specific dimensions of the strut, such as the outer diameter of the cylinder and piston rod, which are crucial for compatibility.
  • X: This may indicate a "special" or "extended" version.
  • 153A: This is a unique identifier for the specific model and version of the suspension strut.
  • Gas Pressure: This indicates that the shock absorber uses gas pressure to provide damping, which helps prevent foaming and ensures a consistent performance.
  • Suspension Strut: This is the type of shock absorber, which is a structural part of the suspension system.
  • Twin-Tube: This describes the internal design of the shock absorber, where there are two tubes (an inner and outer tube).
