2017 MK3.5 Focus 1.5 Ecoboost (150ps) timing parts advice

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've been trying to find out if the 1.5 ecoboost (4 cylinder, 150ps) is a wet belt driven engine, as I've found many conflicting articles. I've seen some saying it is wet belt, some say it's not wet belt for timing but oil pump is driven on a secondary wet belt, and some even saying timing chain (i doubt it). If anybody has any knowledge on this that would be great as I would like to get the belt replaced using fomoco parts supplied to a garage. The ford parts site lists 1675963 as a fit but no mention of how it is ran (wet or dry). I'd like to know for certain if it is a wet belt to insure I buy the correct parts beforehand.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Mk3.5 4 cylinder 1.5 EcoBoost uses a single dry belt for timing.  The oil pump uses direct drive from the crank, no belt or chain needed for that.

The 3 cylinder 1.5 used in the Mk4 Focus uses a chain and a wet oil-pump belt, so this is where the confusion comes from.
