Modification insurance quote.

Featured Replies

I contacted my insurance for a quote for adding a spoiler riser to my Fiesta, I was pretty surprised by the quote that would increase my insurance by £120. I really don't think the advisor knows what a spoiler riser even is. Does this price sound right. Let me know. TIA

I can guarantee a spoiler riser isn't on the list of mods that a standard insurance company will be able to choose from.  They will probably have had to put it down as visual changes or even a bodykit.  If you want to make a lot of minor mods then you're better off with a specific modified insurer.

Many (most?) "normal" Insurers don't like modifications full stop, and what they quote may vary widely. Years ago you could actually have a sensible conversation with someone knowledgeable, but nowadays (assuming you get through to a real person) they just seem ruled by whatever is on the drop down menu on the computer, as Tom has mentioned.

There are quite a few specialist insurers of performance/modified cars - have a search around the web.

Generally though any insurer is going to.base prices on the same factors - age, experience, driving record, etc. The modification thing can be a red  flag to some anyway - I've heard of cases of renewal premiums going up just from asking about mods.

Unfortunately the only reliable way I've found to reduce premiums is to get old and not hit anything in the meantime!😀

Hi.

It's difficult to comment on individual circumstances. Each individual  insurer will have their own terms around modifivacrions. Some will be more respective to modifications than other.

Regards,

Dan.
